Science Lab

May 19th, 2009

Today the 8th grade had a lab during science.

The lab was performed in order to show different chemical reactions and which reactions they are.

There were 6 different stations that had different chemical reactions.

The different reactions were:

  1. Copper Sulfate and Aluminum
  2. Zinc and Hydrochloric acid
  3. Zinc and Iodine (We only watched a video. Apparently it creates a toxic gas, which would be a problem)
  4. Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Carbonate
  5. Oxidation of Iron (Iron in saltwater)
  6. Hydrogen Peroxide and Manganese Dioxide

The experiment went without any accidents and no one spilled acid on themselves, so it was a success.

Henry for Vice President!

May 19th, 2009

Hello I’m Henry Koontz and I am running for vice president of Student Voice. I am qualified for this position because I make good grades and I’m in the National Junior Honor Society. I am also in the Latin Honor Society. I am responsible because my trade fair group and I delivered marshmallow shooters on time to everyone who ordered one from our booth. As vice president I would do every thing in my power to make St. Lukes a better place. Also, if you vote for me your wildest dreams will come true.

Field Day

May 14th, 2009

Are you ready for field day? Honestly it does not matter because it is coming anyways. Field day is next week, Friday May 22, so make sure that you have your outfits ready. You may wear clothing that is the color of your team and tennis shoes. If you do not know what team your on its okay! DON’T PANIC!!!!!!!!!! Take a deep breath, walk over to your teachers desk and politely ask is you can see the list of teams. Its that simple. Oh did I mention that school gets early on the day of field day? Hope you have an amazing field day and if you don’t thats okay too!

Seventh Graders Gone: A Mini Mystery

May 14th, 2009

It was a quiet afternoon in the cafeteria today. Empty tables loomed as the eighth graders entered the room. People were running around, scared to death! One gasped as they suddenly realized what was wrong. It was quiet. It was too quiet. The seventh graders were gone! Did they die of the swine flu? Suddenly kidnapped? Was it poisoning? Abducted by Aliens?!!! Then when all hope was about to be lost, on young girl said “Don’t worry! The seventh graders will be back tomorrow. They’re visiting the Bob Bullock Museum today on a field trip.” Then everyone breathed a sigh of relief and returned to normal activities. This has been another mystery solved by Shirley Holmes. It is held in the gym from 2:40 pm to3:30 pm.

It has a 1950’s sock hop theme, which is, if you don’t know what that is, a dance where you would dance without shoes, in your socks.

Girls would wear poodle skirts and blouses, guys would wear suits with skinny ties.
